‘Jay sir ke bina training mein mazaa nahi aaya’
A sales intern remarked on a sales training workshop feedback form. ‘College jaisa boring lecture tha’ he added. The new trainer sent could not connect with the sales team as well as he should. Eventually, the HR was forced to bring back the old trainer, who won much praise for his efforts to connect and relate with the audience.
‘Jay sir’ as he’s fondly known, hasn’t been the boring teacher everyone hates to listen. He is anything but that.
No one would miss his lectures- he is known to burn the midnight oil to prepare every little detail of his training- and that showed in the way he presented every concept with a relatable story and example, bringing to life even the most boring concept that the textbook had.
For many of his students, he is the mentor, guide and role model they never had. ‘Jay sir helped us when no one in college did. Unki wajah se mera ghar chal raha hai’ one of his students remarked. Today, he has risen to become a zonal manager for a leading pharmaceutical company, earning more than what his parents earned in a year.
This knack of understanding how to explain something to anyone has been a strength that everyone expects in a teacher, but is sadly hard to find. This genuine efforts to explain concepts has earned him the respect and admiration of a wide range of people, whom he has helped through his entrepreneurial journey.
The Start
Jay started his career as a salesman, earning just Rs.3,000 per month. He slowly climbed the corporate ladder, eventually earning a six-figure salary as a corporate trainer and content developer at the Aditya Birla Group, where he discovered his traits.
A corporate job offered him limited potential to make a difference, so he did what every enterprising person would do- quit his job to start something himself. He knew this journey would be risky, without any guarantee of success, but as Paulo Coelho quoted in The Alchemist, “when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” Jay had a desire to offer much more than his corporate job could ever do, and he worked towards it. Slowly. Eventually. Successfully.
From Corporate Trainer to Educator
To start with, Jay and his wife started a preschool named Parvarish International Preschool, which emphasised the child’s emotional and mental development. What started with just 2 students and one centre in 2013 is now a growing preschool chain with 4 branches and 6,000+ students. As the founder and director, Jay has been closely involved in developing a customised curriculum for the children, along with training the staff and involving the parents to help them raise their children to meet the ground realities of modern life. He also penned down his thoughts through his book ‘Nurturing Little Humans’, which launched in 2018.
Acknowledging his efforts, Parvarish International Preschool won the Best Preschool of Gujarat award at the Icon Education Awards in 2019. He was also invited to speak at the Early Childhood Forum at Macau in 2019. He also won the Best Debut Author for his book Nurturing Little Humans in 2018.
Along with toddlers, he also worked as a visiting faculty for management students and worked with a leading corporate training institute as a business trainer to help more than 5000 entrepreneurs hone their marketing, sales, leadership and branding to meet the demands of the modern market.
Pivot to Content Creation
In December 2019, Jay noticed a gap in the photography business, where professional photographers weren’t able to market themselves to corporates, large public events and marriage assignments. They would usually depend on word of mouth, which can be unreliable at times, and does not guarantee consistent work.
That’s when he launched Opicxo Techserv Pvt Ltd, a wedding planning and photographer booking platform.
This company has helped organize the photographer’s business by helping them get verified leads, consistent bookings and visibility through a united platform that showcases their skills. Last year, Opicxo helped photographers get 500+ bookings from clients across India for wedding photography, casual photoshoots and corporate events.
This wouldn’t be possible without his hugely successful Instagram handle- ShaadiVibesOnly, where he helps couples with wedding photography hacks, vendor checklists and wedding planning hacks. This handle now has a million followers, and Jay aims to reach a million followers. This has helped him build a community that complements Opicxo.
This content-first solution, without the use of any paid collaborations or advertisement has shown how marketing is done in the era of short attention spans. As the next step in his journey, Jay is now working to use Opixco as a medium to share his experiences and skills, the new age form of education that is slowly replacing the conventional degree.
“I didn’t just start businesses—I’ve created ecosystems. From training 5000+ entrepreneurs, to empowering photographers and vendors with digital tools, to creating free educational content for young couples and parents, I’ve always believed in growing by lifting others.
My hope is that my story inspires self-made entrepreneurs from small cities to think big, act bold, and build businesses that don’t just make money, but make a mark,” he explains.
