Mumbai: Jio Payments Banks Limited (JPBL) has ventured into toll collection after winning the award to operate India’s first Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll collection system for two toll plazas between Jaipur and Gurugram, the company said in a press release.
This initiative aligns with the National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) digital tolling program, which enables vehicles to pass through toll plazas without stopping. With this, waiting even for a few seconds at the toll plazas will be a thing of the past, as high-resolution cameras will detect the FASTag and the Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) to deduct the toll automatically.
The MLFF toll collection system is being implemented by the Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), which is implementing this project, especially for barrier-free vehicular movement on national highways.
So far, JPBL has been managing toll operations on 11 different highway stretches, with this next-gen contract helping the brand to evolve in India’s infrastructure-linked digital payments landscape.
Jio Payments Bank is also exploring ways to synergise its reach through its widely available Jio Platforms suite, boosting the company’s chances to win more contracts. Until now, JPBL has won two of the five bids awarded by the IHMCL, with the company seeking to win more such bids.
“Our expansion into the tolling ecosystem is a natural progression of our mission to digitise everyday payments and build smart financial infrastructure at scale. This milestone reflects our commitment to delivering seamless, citizen-centric financial services and driving access, efficiency, and inclusion across the country. By leveraging the synergy of digital capabilities with the group ecosystem, we are actively building capabilities to participate in the evolving mobility ecosystem in India.” Vinod Easwaran, Managing Director & CEO, Jio Payments Bank Limited, said.
