New Delhi: OpenAI is making a step forward, recently building its own version of an application store to rival tech giants like Apple and Google at its DevDay event, which was on Monday. The AI giant announced that it is bringing applications inside ChatGPT. CEO Sam Altman stated they now have 800 million weekly users. OpenAI also unveiled an application software development kit that allows developers to build their own applications for ChatGPT. These features all allow ChatGPT to function more like an application store.
Firstly, when users mention an application in ChatGPT, they will be prompted to connect and choose what data to share. Users can chat with the application using natural language, such as asking Spotify to create a playlist or Zillow to display specific types of properties, with the resulting information appearing in ChatGPT. This will enable a new generation of applications that are interactive, adaptive, and personalised. OpenAI also stated that it will accept application submissions for review and publication later this year, when it will also offer details on how developers can monetise their applications.
App stores, which are going to generate revenue by taking a cut of purchases, have become a substantial source of income for both Apple and Google. Additionally, OpenAI is unveiling a directory where users can browse applications, and those that meet higher standards for design and functionality will be featured more prominently both in the directory and in ChatGPT.
