New Delhi: Power generation major SJVN has announced the launch of its 200MW solar power project at Khavda, Gujarat, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laying the foundation stone at an event at the location.

Also present at the event were Gujarat CM Bhupendrabhai Patel, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for Jal Shakti Shri Chandrakant Patil, Union Minister of Labour, Employment and Youth Affairs, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya and other dignitaries.

Besides this, SJVN CMD Shri Bhupender Gupta, Director Finance (Addl. Charge) Sipan Kumar Garg and other senior officials of SJVN joined the event virtually.

The power project, situated in the Khadva Solar Park, has been developed by Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) in the Kachchh district of Gujarat. The power generated here will be supplied to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) at a rate of Rs.2.88/unit. The project is expected to generate about 504.92 million units of electricity for the first year and almost 11,620 million units over 25 years. The project, being built at an estimated cost of Rs.866.8 crore, is expected to be commissioned by 31st December 2026.

Originally set up as a hydroelectric power generation company, SJVN has diversified into thermal and renewable power as well. The Navratna PSU has been a multibagger of late, giving investors an impressive 300% return over the past 5 years, even though the stock has seen its share of volatility, mostly due to the volatility in its financial performance.
