New Delhi: Google has just launched an experiential app that allows you to virtually try any outfit online- you just need to upload your photo and the app shows you how it will look on an animated version of yourself.
This app is currently in beta version, available only in the US as part of Google Shopping capabilities that was announced in May.
Though it has just been launched, Google says there’s still a lot of work to do, and it might not always get things right.
Once you download the app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, you are required to upload a full-body photo of yourself in bright light, with a specific pose and without a hat. Once done, you can upload any outfit photo that you’d like to try, and the app will generate a still image of you in that outfit.
The app seems to automatically adjust the clothes dimensions as well, as one Reddit user said
“Just tried it – it 100% just assumes a good fit. There’s no parameters for trying different sizes, or for whether or not the inseam will be correct. I’m quite tall, with a pretty long inseam, and every outfit it put on me fit flawlessly (including ones that I know have too short of an inseam). It could be a useful tool for checking if you like how a particular color palette looks, but don’t expect much beyond that,”
Others are worried about its misuse and are wondering how Google aims to address them:
“Are there any safeguards to confirm it’s -your- picture? Otherwise I’m guessing there’s going to be quite a lot of creepy/embarrassing dress up pictures being made”

Other users are already experiencing issues with the app, just as any other AI tool has its own share of hallucinations. Google hasn’t given a timeline about its launch in other locations.
