New Delhi: Bharti Airtel has partnered with Blinkit, a popular quick-delivery app we all know, to launch something totally new in India, SIM card delivery at home in just 10 minutes. Yes, you heard it right, this is the first time a telecom company in India is offering such a fast SIM delivery service.
Right now, this service is available in 16 major cities like Delhi, Gurgaon, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and more. Airtel says that more cities will be added soon.
So how does it actually work?
It’s super simple, we can order a new Airtel SIM online, and Blinkit will bring it to your door in just 10 minutes. There’s a small convenience fee of ₹49 for the delivery, once the SIM arrives, you can quickly activate it using Aadhaar-based KYC (identity verification). Both prepaid and postpaid options are available. You can even keep your current number if you’re switching to Airtel from another company, thanks to Mobile Number Portability (MNP), to make the process easier, Airtel also offers a quick video guide and an online link to help you activate the SIM. You’ll need to activate it within 15 days after receiving it.
Existing Airtel users can also use the Airtel Thanks App, and new users can call Airtel’s dedicated helpline at 9810012345.
Talking about the launch, Siddharth Sharma, CEO of Connected Homes at Airtel, said their goal is to make life easier for customers. He’s excited about this tie-up with Blinkit and hinted at expanding the service to more places soon.
Blinkit’s CEO, Albinder Dhindsa, also shared his excitement. He said the partnership is all about saving time for people, Blinkit handles the fast delivery, and Airtel makes getting started simple.
In case you didn’t know, Blinkit (earlier known as Grofers) was rebranded in 2021 and has been offering 10-minute deliveries for groceries, gadgets, and more. It was acquired by Zomato in 2022 and is now adding things like SIM cards to its speedy delivery list, the new service provided is part of a growing trend where quick-delivery companies are moving into new areas. Blinkit has already delivered electronics like smartphones and even Apple products in some cities, now it’s telecom’s turn.
With over 550 million users in India and Africa, Airtel is using this service to make its already big network even more convenient. Along with 4G/5G, broadband, digital payments, and entertainment, fast SIM delivery is Airtel’s next big step toward a fully digital experience.
