New Delhi: Zomato Ltd., one of the better-known food delivery companies, announced that it plans to rename its holding company as “Eternal.” The firm’s board resolved this on 6 February; however, worry not, folks. This shall not change any of the fancy names of these popular services; Zomato and Blinkit will remain just the same.
Why “Eternal”?
CEO Deepinder Goyal said that the name change reflects the company’s goal of lasting success and continuous improvement. He called Zomato an “accidental company” that started from a simple idea and grew into something much bigger.
Goyal also admitted that “Eternal” is a big name to live up to. For him, it’s not about pretending to be invincible but about recognizing challenges and always striving to do better.
This began after acquiring Blinkit. “Eternal” was to replace “Zomato” simply because the intention was to provide a separate identity to the parent company while still letting individual brands shine. Given that Blinkit is now one of the prominent parts of the business, it felt like a good time for the company to make the official change.
What’s Changing?
After getting the nod from the MCA, the company’s primary website will shift from zomato.com to eternal.com. Its stock market ticker will also shift from ZOMATO to ETERNAL.
Under the “Eternal” umbrella, the company will control four primary brands:
- Zomato for food delivery
- Blinkit for quick commerce
- District is a logistics business
- Hyperpure for B2B supplies in restaurants
How Has the Market Reacted?
On the day of the announcement, Zomato’s stock closed marginally lower at ₹229.05, down 0.95% from previous day’s ₹231.25. However the news was after the market hours. So the investors may respond more in the coming days.
It’s a big change for Zomato, but seems the company is quite proud of the future under its new name, Eternal.
