New Delhi: Zakir Khan, born on August 20, 1987, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, is not just a popular comedian but also a major influencer in the Indian entertainment scene. He first gained attention after winning India’s Best Stand-Up on Comedy Central in 2012. Since then, he has built a massive following with his relatable humor and engaging storytelling, releasing several successful stand-up specials on Amazon Prime Video, including Haq Se Single (2017), Kaksha Gyarvi (2018), Tathastu (2022), and Mannpasand (2023).
Growing up in a Rajasthani Muslim family of musicians, Zakir was surrounded by art and culture from a young age. He is the grandson of renowned Sarangi Maestro Ustad Moinuddin Khan. Despite his family’s artistic background, Zakir initially pursued engineering, as his parents hoped he would become an engineer. However, he discovered his passion for comedy while participating in local open mic events during college.
After working in a corporate job that left him unfulfilled, Zakir made the bold decision to move to Mumbai and focus on his comedy career full-time. Zakir’s career took off with the release of Haq Se Single, which highlighted his observational comedy style and resonated with audiences across India. His relatable jokes about relationships, work life, and everyday struggles have made him a favorite among young people. He is known for his signature phrase “Sakht Launda,” which has become part of popular culture. As an influencer, Zakir has expanded his reach beyond stand-up comedy.
He co-hosted On Air with AIB, participated as a mentor on The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, and judged Amazon Prime’s Comicstaan. His web series, Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare, further showcased his versatility, and his latest project, Farzi Mushaira on Amazon miniTV, combines his love for poetry and comedy.
