New Delhi: Apple’s biggest event of the year has arrived, introducing the iPhone 16 series along with major updates involving artificial intelligence (AI) in iOS 18. One of the main highlights of the event was “Apple Intelligence,” first shown earlier this year at WWDC 2024. Alongside this, Apple also revealed new hardware like the iPhone 16, AirPods 4, Apple Watch Series 10, and more. The event, called “Glowtime,” was streamed live from Apple’s Cupertino headquarters at 10 a.m. PT, with a full recording available online.
Whether these new products will lead to a big wave of people upgrading to the iPhone 16 remains to be seen, but what is clear is that Apple is focusing heavily on AI to enhance its products. More information will come out as people get hands-on with the new devices.
Apple Intelligence: The Main Feature of the Event
Apple Intelligence, which was first shown at WWDC, is a powerful, private AI that works in the background to improve apps and features. Apple highlighted its ability to organize emails and prioritize important notifications. Apple also shared that it’s making Siri smarter with these AI upgrades, helping it understand more casual or unclear requests and guide users through tasks on their phones.
Apple Intelligence will launch as a beta in the U.S. this fall, with localized English versions in other markets by December. Languages like Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish are expected to follow in 2025.
AI-Powered Visual Search
Apple also introduced an AI-driven visual search feature that combines image recognition with text reading. This lets users pull up information about a place or event from a photo or add details to their calendar based on an image.
Apple Watch Series 10: Celebrating 10 Years
To mark the 10th anniversary of the Apple Watch, Apple unveiled the Series 10 with several improvements. The new watch has a more rounded design, a wider aspect ratio, and Apple’s first wide-angle OLED screen. It’s the thinnest Apple Watch yet at 9.7mm and 10% lighter than previous versions. The display is also 40% brighter when viewed from an angle.
The Series 10 also uses AI for a new photos watch face, and the translation tools have been improved using machine learning. Both the Series 10 and Series 9 will have a new feature to detect sleep apnea, though it’s still awaiting approval from the FDA. The Series 10 will start at $399 and will be available on September 20.
macOS Sequoia: Coming September 16
Apple also announced that macOS Sequoia, first shown at WWDC 2024, will be available starting September 16.
This year’s event focused on exciting new products and showed Apple’s push towards integrating AI into its devices, paving the way for even more innovation in the future.
