New Delhi: In a recent interview, YouTube’s CEO Neal Mohan discussed the platform’s trajectory in becoming the foremost destination for video creation, sharing, and viewing. Taking the helm in February 2023, Mohan, a Stanford alum and former chief product officer at Google, outlined his vision for YouTube’s future, emphasizing its unique position as neither a social media platform nor traditional TV.
Mohan highlighted YouTube’s exponential growth, surpassing Netflix as the largest streaming platform globally, especially on living room screens, with over a billion hours of watch time. He underscored the platform’s commitment to supporting creators through various revenue streams, including advertising, subscription services, and direct fan funding.
Addressing concerns about YouTube’s algorithmic recommendations and the rise of short-form content, Mohan stressed their dedication to enhancing viewer experience through AI-driven innovations. Regarding speculation about YouTube videos being used to train AI models, Mohan reiterated the platform’s strict adherence to terms of service, prohibiting unauthorized use of content.
While acknowledging the transformative potential of AI, Mohan cautioned against its misuse for disseminating misinformation or deepfakes, emphasizing YouTube’s efforts to combat such issues through content labeling and promoting authoritative sources, especially during sensitive periods like elections.
