New Delhi: Android 15 is nearly here. While Google hasn’t revealed all the new features for this latest version, they did confirm the release of the second beta update during the I/O 2024 event. Pixel devices have already received the update, and users with phones from other manufacturers can now try it out as well. The stable version is anticipated to launch around September this year. For those eager to explore the new OS ahead of time, the beta version is available, though it may be unstable and prone to bugs.
The Android 15 Beta 2 update is rolling out to select devices from brands including Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Sharp, Tecno, Vivo, and Xiaomi. Among the models receiving the update are the OnePlus 12, Xiaomi 14, and Realme 12 Pro+. Below is a summary of the key features in the Android 15 Beta 2 version.
The new OS introduces a Private Space feature for apps, allowing users to hide specific apps from recent apps, notifications, and settings when the profile is locked. Another significant addition is App Pairs, which enables users to save and launch two apps simultaneously in split-screen mode, enhancing multitasking efficiency.
Predictive Back has been enhanced and is now enabled by default, removing the need for developers to activate it manually. This feature offers smoother navigation with improved animations for transitions between home screens, tasks, and activities in compatible apps.
Additionally, Android 15 has refined media permission management, letting apps display only the most recently selected photos and videos when granted partial access. Apps targeting Android 15 can now provide Remote Views to the Widget Picker, making widget previews more personalized and relevant.
The Health Connect feature now supports two new data types: skin temperature and training plans, expanding health and fitness tracking capabilities. It also allows apps to set rich vibrations for incoming notifications by channel, helping users distinguish notifications through haptics. Lastly, the animation for entering Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode has been smoothed out, benefiting apps with overlay UI elements.
