New Delhi: InterGlobe Enterprises, the powerhouse behind India’s leading airline, IndiGo, has joined forces with Archer Aviation to usher in a new era of urban mobility in India. In a groundbreaking memorandum of understanding (MOU), the two giants plan to introduce a cutting-edge, all-electric air taxi service set to redefine travel with safety, sustainability, and minimal noise. Pending regulatory approvals, this collaboration aims to make electric air travel as cost-effective as ground transportation.
Rahul Bhatia, the visionary Group Managing Director of InterGlobe, and Archer’s Chief Commercial Officer, Nikhil Goel, sealed the deal. The partnership envisions close collaboration with local partners to oversee Archer’s aircraft, establish vertiport infrastructure, and train essential personnel, including pilots, for seamless operations. Additionally, plans are underway to secure funding for up to 200 of Archer’s groundbreaking Midnight aircraft dedicated to operations in India.
Archer’s Midnight, a four-passenger electric vertical takeoff and landing marvel, is designed for rapid, consecutive flights with minimal charge time between journeys. The audacious goal is to transport passengers from Connaught Place to Gurugram, a 27-km route that typically takes 60 to 90 minutes by car, in an astonishing 7 minutes. 
Beyond urban air taxi services, the partnership aims to explore diverse applications for electric aircraft in India, spanning cargo transport, logistics, medical and emergency services, as well as private company and charter services. Rahul Bhatia expressed excitement about this venture, emphasizing InterGlobe’s commitment to providing a futuristic, sustainable transport solution to millions of Indians.
Archer’s CEO and Founder, Adam Goldstein, underscored the tremendous opportunity in India, given its vast population and urban congestion challenges. He described Archer’s all-electric Midnight aircraft as a revolutionary solution to address these issues. Nikhil Goel echoed these sentiments, expressing enthusiasm about transforming mobility in Indian cities, starting with Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, and making them greener, smarter, and more efficient places to live.
