New Delhi: Apple Music has bid farewell to its most budget-friendly offering, the Voice Plan, which initially debuted in 2021 at a cost of just $5 per month. This unique subscription allowed users to interact with Apple Music solely through voice commands powered by Siri. While Apple didn’t make a formal announcement about discontinuing the plan, a note on its support page hinted at the change.
In November, Apple quietly sunsetted the Apple Music Voice plan, redirecting its focus towards providing customers with an enhanced music experience. This includes exciting features like immersive Spatial Audio, the ability to sing along with real-time lyrics, user-friendly browsing and discovery options, and much more.
While the company didn’t explicitly state the reason behind discontinuation, it’s likely that the plan didn’t capture a substantial user base. Its limitations, such as the absence of real-time lyrics and the inability to add songs to one’s library or craft custom playlists, might have deterred users. Moreover, the Voice Plan was only available in a limited number of countries.
For those who miss the Siri-only experience, Apple wants you to know that all other Apple Music plans, including Individual, Student, Family, and Apple One, continue to offer Siri support. You can still use voice commands and even “Type to Siri” to play any song, album, playlist, or radio station.
As of today, the Voice Plan has officially been removed from Apple’s website. Existing Voice subscribers can continue using the plan until the end of their current billing cycle, with auto-renewal turned off.
