Kamakshi and Vishala Khurana founded ‘The Sound Space’ in 2010 is a phenomenal space in the world of sound. At ‘The Sound Space’, they work with children and adults from different socio-economic backgrounds to spread music education and bring them together through their experience of music.
The Sound Space is a culmination of this duo sisters’ musical childhood and their dream to make music a part of everyone’s lives. It started off as an experiment where they explored the different ways in which music can impact one’s life and in the past few years, it has moved on to become a full-fledged company that infuses people’s lives through various channels.
Kamakshi and Vishala grew up deeply inspired by their dad. He left his business and started a career in music. Both sisters flourish around his guru, and music has always been a part of their atmosphere. Duo went ahead to study music on their own and completed their Visharads from the University of Lucknow. Sisters, deep connection with music led them to found ‘The Sound Space’.
Deconstructing the complexities of Indian music and then using it to offer an enhanced life to children and adults alike, the Khurana sisters are working hand-in-hand with various schools, NGOs, and multinational corporations through their ventures’ diverse and well planned programs.
Giving insight into the health benefits of Music and Sound therapy, Kamakshi said, “There are many health benefits of music and sound therapy. Over the years, science has proven that the power of music and sound is truly unmatched. We strongly believe that sound has the indefatigable power to touch every aspect of human life. From a child with Attention Deficiency Disorder (ADHD) or Autism to an employee struggling at work, from cancer patients to little ones wanting to learn a new form of art, the various programs at The Sound Space have the miraculous ability to heal and revive the mind, body and soul. Sound has the power to center us by relieving stress in its strong ability to heal and revive the mind, body and soul. Everything in the universe vibrates at its own natural frequency, including us humans. Our Chakra systems reconnect us with the natural systems and balance our mind, body and spirit”.
“Along with some miraculous powers to heal, sound has the capacity to influence every aspect of a human being from the time of their conception. Through this venture, we aim to introduce these unique qualities of sound through different mediums for people with different needs, she added”.
‘When children at an early age explore different styles of music, techniques and instruments, it becomes most effective for the development of emotion’. “In their early years, children are very sensitive to the environment around them, and their mind is open to development. They are like sponges and absorb pieces of information around them at a remarkable pace. Exposure to the right kind of music and sounds in the early years helps to develop their brain. In turn, their ability to feel and emote and express also gets developed rapidly”.
Kamakshi and Vishala believe success is when you have been able to make a small impact on someone’s life, and failure is when you stop trying.
Giving advice to budding entrepreneurs, they affirm, “Never give up. Always follow your passion. Stay committed to your dreams and goals. Be flexible but stick to your guns and values”.
The Sound Space is redefining traditional Indian music in the education, healthcare and corporate sector through innovative, interactive programs, workshops and welfare initiatives because they believe that Indian music is at the epicenter of human wellbeing and holistic living.
