New Delhi: With the exponential growth of Internet traffic and the increasing prevalence of cyber-security threats, a recent report has revealed that 47 percent of senior IT professionals in Indian communication service providers (CSPs) now prioritize upgrading firewalls and other security appliances as part of their network security investment. The study, conducted by independent research organization Opinion Matters on behalf of A10 Networks, also indicated that 30 percent of respondents focus on DDoS detection and monitoring, while 33 percent prioritize investments in ransomware and malware protection services.
The report further highlighted that all Indian service providers expect a surge in traffic volumes within the next two to three years. However, compared to a similar survey conducted two years ago, the dominance of upgrading firewalls and security appliances has decreased. Anthony Webb, the vice president of A10 International, explained that this shift indicates the need for a comprehensive network security strategy that can effectively address the evolving range of threats while ensuring high-quality, reliable, and secure services for customers.
In India, network security strategies are becoming increasingly sophisticated and diverse. The report revealed that 28 percent of respondents prefer the automation of security policies, while 37 percent aim for the simplification and integration of various point solutions. Additionally, 41 percent of participants mentioned their plans to expand their networks to unserved or underserved communities, with 30 percent intending to achieve a growth of more than 10 percent in their current subscriber base.
Furthermore, the study found that 63 percent of Indian respondents reported positive outcomes related to their cloud transition, with 27 percent stating that it directly generated revenue. This trend towards cloud adoption is also influencing the purchasing criteria for network equipment, with 31 percent of Indian respondents considering a cloud-native form factor as a must-have criterion.
The findings of this report highlight the growing importance of robust network security measures among Indian CSPs. As the threat landscape evolves, organizations must adopt comprehensive strategies that encompass a wide range of security measures. By prioritizing the upgrading of firewalls, investing in DDoS detection and monitoring, and enhancing ransomware and malware protection services, CSPs can strengthen their defences and ensure the delivery of secure services to their customers.
Additionally, strategies such as automation, simplification, and integration can streamline security operations and enhance overall network security. With the rapid expansion of networks and the positive outcomes associated with cloud adoption, it is crucial for Indian service providers to adapt their infrastructure and embrace cloud-native solutions to stay ahead in this dynamic and ever-changing digital landscape.
