New Delhi: Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) announced on Wednesday that it has received recognition for its efforts in conserving water. The independent global assurance agency, DNV(Det Norske Veritas), has certified AGEL as Water Positive, which signifies that the company’s water conservation is greater than consumption, according to a company statement.
DNV conducted a qualitative and quantitative assessment of AGEL’s water balance index for its operational sites with a capacity greater than 200 MW in Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh. The water balance index is a ratio of water consumption to water conservation. As per the assessment, the water balance index is 1.12 (positive), exceeding its target to become net water neutral by FY25, which is well ahead of schedule.
The verification process involved sample-based checks and an evaluation of AGEL’s methodology, measurement techniques, estimation methods, assumptions, and uncertainties involved in the process of water accounting. AGEL has recorded a 99.5 percent lower freshwater consumption per unit of generation compared to the statutory limit for thermal power of 3.5 KL/MWh in FY23.
