New Delhi: Radisys, a subsidiary of Indian telecom giant Reliance Jio, has announced its plans to acquire Mimosa Networks, a US-based company specialising in wireless broadband solutions. The deal is valued at $60 million on a debt-free, cash-free basis, the companies said on Thursday.
Mimosa Networks was founded in 2012 and is based in Santa Clara, California. The company provides cloud-managed, fiber-fast wireless broadband solutions for urban, suburban, and rural areas. Its products include wireless access points, client devices, and cloud-based network management software.
Radisys, on the other hand, is a provider of open telecom solutions for service providers worldwide. The company offers software, services, and hardware that enable the deployment of communication services across multiple generations of networks, from 2G to 5G and beyond.
The acquisition of Mimosa Networks is expected to strengthen Radisys’ position in the telecom market, particularly in the area of fixed wireless access (FWA). FWA is a wireless broadband technology that uses radio waves to provide internet access to homes and businesses. It is seen as a cost-effective alternative to traditional wired broadband solutions, such as fiber and cable.
According to Arun Bhikshesvaran, CEO of Reliance Jio, “This acquisition further accelerates Jio’s global innovation and technology leadership in the areas of 5G, IoT and open source architecture adoption.”
He added, “Radisys’ top-class management and engineering team offer Reliance rapid innovation and solution development expertise globally, which complements our work towards software-centric disaggregated networks and platforms, enhancing the value to customers across consumer and enterprise segments.”
Mimosa Networks CEO Brian Hinman also expressed his excitement about the acquisition, stating that “Combining our technology with Radisys’ world-class engineering team and deep telecom expertise enables us to rapidly scale and deploy our wireless broadband solutions across the globe.”
Overall, the acquisition of Mimosa Networks is expected to help Radisys expand its offerings in the telecom market and increase its competitiveness in the FWA space. It also highlights Reliance Jio’s continued commitment to investing in cutting-edge technology solutions to stay ahead of the curve in the rapidly-evolving telecom industry.
