Mumbai: GetSetUp, an interactive online platform for older adults to learn and develop new skills, has partnered with Rubicon Foundation, which enables communities to become financially independent. The partnership aims to aid older adults in gaining the skills necessary to become self-sufficient individuals. Topics for these classes will range from digital literacy, basic technology, content creation, job-seeking and reskilling in the digital sphere.
GetSetUp provides seniors with a safe place to not only learn from peers but also to teach and share the skills they have gained over their lifetime. Hundreds of weekly interactive classes are led by older adults who are experts in their field, community members, and special guests.
Rubicon identifies and promotes solutions across communities to build a secure life through skill development, better educational facilities, and access to quality healthcare. Rubicon achieves its social objectives through community support, skill building, counselling and continuous mentoring.
Dhanya Narayanan, Chairperson of Rubicon Foundation, commented on the partnership, saying, “At Rubicon, we have primarily focused on skilling and enabling young adults from underrepresented communities towards financial independence. We now realize that with the changes in the demography of our communities, we also need to cater to the needs of older adults to be economically active for longer than they used to be. With our partnership with GetSetUp, we aim to become more inclusive in our demographic impact to achieve that social goal.”
Deval Delivala, Co-Founder & SVP of GetSetUp, commented on the partnership, saying, “At GetSetUp, we empower older adults with skills and opportunities to evolve their job and volunteer roles to continue to create a lasting impact. Rapid digitalization of job functions globally has impacted the performance and ability to learn new developments for the older workforce. Through the partnership with Rubicon, we intend to train older adults in digital business and management skills within the next few years so they can create lasting impacts in their field.”
Delivala added, “With the Rubicon Tech Programme, we aim to facilitate some skill gaps that make it easier for employers to reject older employees. With agility in handling various technology applications at work, older employees can bring great value to organizations with their experience, loyalty and understanding of businesses. We aim to help them realize their job potential irrespective of age.”
The government is making active efforts to help Seniors launch India’s Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment’s (MoSJ&E’s) Senior Able Citizen for Re-Employment in Dignity (SACRED) programme launched in October 2021 enables people above the age of 60 to search for a job through the virtual platform. The partnership between GetSetUp and Rubicon will add more skilled individuals to the pool of job seekers with improved skill sets to apply for these positions.
