OpenAI has begun rolling out GPT-6 to ChatGPT users worldwide, introducing a new feature called “Intelligent UI” that allows the chatbot to respond with interactive interfaces instead of relying only on text. The update is designed to make answers more visual, simplify complex explanations and create task-specific tools inside conversations.
The rollout began on October 7 for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users through the Chat tab. OpenAI said access would expand to Free and Go users from October 8, making GPT-6 available across both paid and free ChatGPT plans. Enterprise access may depend on workplace administrator settings.
Interactive answers inside chats
With Intelligent UI, GPT-6 can combine written explanations with graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts and other interactive elements. The model determines which format is most suitable for a user’s request.
For example, a comparison could appear in a side-by-side layout, while a complex explanation could be presented as an interactive diagram. Users may also receive maps, visual plans or forms that can be used directly within the conversation. OpenAI said ChatGPT would continue to provide a standard text response when that is the most useful format.
The company demonstrated the feature through examples including a visual breakdown of a seven-speed bicycle. Users can select different bicycle systems, such as the frame, wheels, drivetrain, brakes and cockpit, to explore how each part works.
GPT-6 can also create tools on demand. OpenAI said users could ask ChatGPT to build a bill-splitting calculator, a savings-growth calculator or even a simple game within the chat. These experiences are generated for the task rather than selected from a fixed software menu.
Faster responses and progressive answers
OpenAI said GPT-6 has also been trained to begin answering while it continues to reason. Instead of waiting for the model to complete its entire process, ChatGPT can progressively compose a response, adding useful information as it works.
According to the company, GPT-6 Instant begins answering web-search-related questions 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. OpenAI also reported that GPT-6 performed better than GPT-5.6 in an internal evaluation of difficult tasks requiring web searches and factual answers.
The company said the model can produce a response in multiple stages while maintaining coherence and factual consistency. However, the figures cited by OpenAI come from internal evaluations and may not represent performance across all real-world uses.
Different models for different plans
GPT-6 in ChatGPT is powered by GPT-6 Sol for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users. Free and Go users will receive GPT-6 Luna, which OpenAI said is also tuned for everyday conversations.
The update applies to the ChatGPT chat experience. OpenAI clarified that the models used in ChatGPT Work and Codex are not changing as part of this release.
Safety measures
OpenAI said GPT-6 incorporates safety advances from its GPT-6 Astra models. The company updated the model’s safety training to strengthen protections against high-risk misuse involving cyberattacks, biological threats and violence.
According to OpenAI’s system card, GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna showed stronger resistance to certain jailbreak attempts and improvements in several factuality and alignment evaluations compared with their GPT-5.6 counterparts. OpenAI also classified both models as having “High” capability in cybersecurity and biological and chemical domains under its Preparedness Framework, while saying they remained below its “Critical” threshold for those assessments.
The system card also records some regressions in selected safety evaluations, including tests involving self-harm, gore, sexual content and emotional reliance. OpenAI said the tests were designed around difficult cases and do not represent typical production usage.
A shift from chat to software
The launch marks a broader change in how OpenAI sees ChatGPT’s role. Rather than treating the chatbot as a system that generates text inside a fixed interface, the company wants GPT-6 to adapt the interface to the user’s task.
OpenAI said it developed a library of native, streamable components and a compiler that allows interactive interfaces to appear progressively as the model generates them. The company acknowledged that GPT-6’s design judgment still needs improvement but described Intelligent UI as a step towards software that adapts to people instead of requiring users to learn fixed interfaces.
For users, the practical impact will depend on how consistently the feature becomes available and how accurately the generated charts, forms and tools perform. As GPT-6 rolls out across ChatGPT, the service is moving beyond conventional question-and-answer interactions towards conversations that can also function as visual explanations, calculators, planners and lightweight applications.
