Mumbai: Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra has said that the company’s purpose and values remain its strongest guiding force as the Group celebrated its 81st Founders’ Day on October 2, which also marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. In a message shared on social media, he reflected on the company’s journey and the vision of its founders, saying Mahindra continues to move forward with the same commitment that shaped its beginning more than eight decades ago.
Anand Mahindra pointed out an interesting historical connection between the company and the nation. He noted that Mahindra received its certificate of registration on October 2, 1945, the same date that India celebrates as Gandhi Jayanti. Calling it a “cosmic coincidence,” he said the Group likes to believe that it shares the country’s horoscope, making the day even more meaningful for the organization.
Looking back at the company’s early years, Mahindra said founders J. C. Mahindra and K. C. Mahindra believed that a business should have a larger purpose than simply earning profits. According to him, they wanted Mahindra to contribute to building a new India and create a positive impact on society. He added that while the company has expanded into many industries and countries since then, its core values have remained unchanged.
The Mahindra Group has grown into one of India’s largest business conglomerates with operations in sectors such as automobiles, farm equipment, financial services, information technology, hospitality, logistics and renewable energy. Today, the Group has a presence in more than 100 countries, serving millions of customers through its diverse businesses.
Speaking about the company’s annual Founders’ Day celebrations, Anand Mahindra highlighted traditions that have become an important part of the Group’s culture. One such tradition allows employees to invite their families to their workplaces so they can understand where their family members work and meet the people they work with every day. He said this creates a stronger bond between employees, their families and the organization.
Another unique tradition involves senior leaders visiting Mahindra businesses other than their own. Instead of staying within their respective divisions, leaders spend the day with teams from different businesses, encouraging interaction, learning and collaboration across the Group.
As part of this year’s celebrations, Anand Mahindra travelled to the company’s advanced automobile manufacturing facility in Chakan, Maharashtra, where he spent time with employees and their families. He said these interactions help remove the boundaries between different businesses and locations, allowing everyone to feel like members of one larger Mahindra family.
