Dr. Virendra Kumar Leads ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Tree Plantation Drive; MoS B. L. Verma Joins Initiative

New Delhi, October 2: As part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 Campaign, the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment organised a tree plantation activity under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative at the Babu Jagjivan Ram National Foundation (BJRNF) in National Capital here today.

The plantation drive was led by Dr Virendra Kumar, Hon’ble Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, in the presence of Shri B. L. Verma, Hon’ble Minister of State of Social Justice and Empowerment.

Dr. Virendra Kumar led the tree plantation activity along with officials of the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Babu Jagjivan Ram National Foundation.

Drawing a parallel between the nurturing of nature by Mother Earth and the nurturing of human life by mothers, Dr Kumar emphasised the importance of protecting and nurturing the environment.

The Officers and officials of the Ministry and BJRNF actively participated in the plantation drive, reaffirming their collective commitment towards environmental conservation and the creation of a clean and green environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Virendra Kumar highlighted the vision behind the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative, which was initiated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

Dr. Virendra Kumar called upon all participants to contribute towards keeping Mother Earth Clean And Healthy, emphasising that collective efforts towards environmental conservation will help create a healthier and more sustainable environment for generations to come.

On the occasion, Dr. Virendra Kumar and Shri B. L. Verma paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri. The dignitaries also paid their respects to Babu Jagjivan Ram.

Dr Virendra Kumar also administered a pledge to the officers and participants to contribute towards a clean and green environment.

A Senior Official in the Ministry said the plantation drive reflects the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment’s commitment to the objectives of Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 and the broader vision of Swachh Bharat and Viksit Bharat.

He said the initiative also highlights the importance of nurturing urban green spaces and encouraging collective participation in environmental conservation.

The Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam plantation activity reinforces the message of environmental responsibility and sustainable development, while encouraging citizens and institutions to contribute towards building a cleaner, greener and healthier India.
