New Delhi: Huawei has launched the Mate 90 family in China, and it’s a crowded lineup: the Mate 90, Mate 90 Pro, Mate 90 Pro Max, a Pro Max Collectors Edition, and the RS Ultimate Design. Orders are open now.
The chips are where the models separate. The Mate 90 runs the Kirin 9030, the Pro gets the Kirin 9035, and everything above that uses the Kirin 9050 Pro. All of them ship with HarmonyOS 7. Huawei claims performance gains of 27 percent for the Mate 90, 20 percent for the Pro and 31% for the Pro Max over their predecessors. Those are lab figures from the company itself, so treat them accordingly.
Screens are 6.75 inches on the Mate 90 and Pro, and 6.9 on the Pro Max. Huawei says the Pro’s dual-layer OLED hits 12,000 nits at 1% APL, and the Pro Max steps up to the wider BT.2020 colour gamut.
Cameras follow a similar ladder. Every model has a 50MP main sensor with a variable f/1.4 to f/4.0 aperture and a 40MP ultrawide. The telephoto is the real split: 50MP on the Mate 90 and Pro, 200MP on the Pro Max and RS. Huawei says its updated colour system improves accuracy by 37 percent, and skin tones by 62.
Batteries are 6,600mAh on the Mate 90 and Pro, and 6,800mAh from the Pro Max up. The base model charges at 66W wired, the rest at 100W, and all of them do 50W wireless.
The RS Ultimate Design is the showpiece. It has a titanium mid-frame, satellite messaging through Tiantong and BeiDou, four-SIM support, and a storage option of 2TB. Huawei also lists its XMAGE Z10 modular camera, with a 1-inch sensor and 24–240mm optical zoom.
Pricing in China starts at 5,999 yuan (roughly Rs. 86,000) for the 12GB+256GB Mate 90. The Pro runs from 6,999 to 9,999 yuan, and the Pro Max from 9,499 yuan. The Collectors Edition costs 10,999 to 12,999 yuan. The RS starts at 12,999 yuan and reaches 18,999 yuan (about Rs. 2.7 lakh) for the 2TB version.
Nothing in the announcement mentions availability outside China, so whether any of these reach India is anyone’s guess for now.
